Chamber Singers, Chorus, Jazz Band to perform annual Festifall concert

10/31/2009

On Friday, Nov. 6, Alfred University will conduct its annual Festifall concert featuring performances by the AU Chamber Singers, the University Chorus, and the Jazz band.

This pops/jazz concert begins at 8 p.m. in Holmes Theatre in Harder Hall, on campus. All are welcome to attend this free event.

The Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Luanne Crosby, professor of voice and chorus, will start off the event with songs by Billy Joel, the Manhattan Transfer, and a song about making a great “chili con carne.”

The University Chorus, also under the direction of Crosby, will sing “Celebration,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” and will finish off with a Latin piece popularized by Brazil 66. University Carillonneur Laurel Buckwalter will be the piano accompanist.

To close out the concert, the Alfred University Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Foster, will perform a variety of bebop, Latin, swing, ballads, and funk pieces. A few selections include Dizzy Gillespie’s “Groovin High,” Charlie Parker’s “Now’s the Time,” and Bill Chase’s “Get it On.”
