Saxons Offense Flexes Its Guns

09/11/2011

ALFRED, NY -- Video game offense. It is a term usually reserved for the Saints and Colts of the world, but on Saturday the Saxons offense fit the bill, scoring on its first six possessions en route to a 48-17 romp of visiting RPI at Merrill Field.

Quarterback Tom Secky (Bemus Point, NY/Maple Grove) paced the offense, completing 17 of 25 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns.

Secky formed quite the connection with sophomore wide receiver Josh Phillips (Camillus, NY/West Genesee), as Phillips hauled in seven catches for 201 yards and a pair of scores, sending out an early warning call to opposing cornerbacks in the Empire 8.

Sophomore running back Austin Dwyer (Hornell, NY/Hornell) picked up right where he left off last season, eclipsing the 100-yard mark on just 17 carries.

A key stat for AU was efficiency on third down; the Saxons converted 11 of 13 third down opportunities.

The offense will try and keep it going Saturday, Sept. 17 at home against St. Lawrence. The game is scheduled for 1:00pm.
