Women's Lax off to a Rough Start

03/29/2011

ALFRED, NY – Alleghany College scored eight of the first nine goals in the second half to edge the host Alfred Saxons, 19-16.

Alfred was up 13-10 at the half, but couldn’t stop Alleghany’s strong surge after the break. Freshman midfielder Ashley White (Islip, NY/Islip) threw one in with 21 minutes left in the contest to put the Saxons up 15-14, but it wasn’t enough. Alleghany would eventually go up 18-14 with 9 minutes left, and was able hold off the Saxons' comeback attempt.

Unfair Dining Hall Prices

03/20/2011

Between the cost of tuition, books, transportation and board, college is an expensive endeavor. Adding to that cost is the food factor. A meal plan is obviously a substantial part of the cost of college regardless of what school you choose to attend, but at Alfred University it seems as if it’s too much.

The biggest rivalry on ice: the Crosby/Ovechkin show

01/29/2011

A constant conversation in the NHL is about the rivalry between Sydney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. The two recently met in the 2011 Winter Classic, an outside hockey event played in Pittsburgh this year. Ovechkin and the Caps were able to tally a 3-1 win over the Penguins despite not playing up to their standards in the weeks up to the game.

Different people one world

01/27/2011

Racism is an issue that has and always will shape everyday interactions throughout the world. It could be the disrespected Muslim in an American grocery store or the hundreds of Tunisians forced to leave Italy, which only proves the extreme variation of the scale sizes. Whatever scale it may be, it plagues the world in ways that many people do not realize.
