AU runners take over Penn

04/20/2010

Alfred University track and field athletes competed on April 22 at the Penn Relays Carnival, the oldest and largest track and field meet in the United States.

Started in 1895 by the University of Pennsylvania, the Penn Relays is an annual event that brings 15,000 participants from high schools, colleges and track clubs from all across the country to Philadelphia to compete in front of a crowd of 39,000 at Franklin Field.

AU men's and women's 4x400 relay teams along with the men's 4x100 relay team competed at this year's competition.

Bill is back: Cross country kicks off with new online tools

09/09/2009

Track is back. At least that’s what the saying is on Flotrack.org, a website that is just one of the many new tools that Coach Bill Sortore has in his arsenal for the new season of Cross Country. Last fall, Sortore became the head coach for men’s and women’s Cross Country team and brought many changes to the program. Workouts were rigorous, lifting became essential, and nutrition (pounding all that protein) became key to the runner’s success.

Track and Field begin outdoor season

04/04/2009

The outdoor Alfred track and field teams had several strong results after its opening meet at Alfred State on March 27, competing against Alfred State, Erie Community College and Finger Lakes Community College.

"I think the first meet was a great start,” said junior Megan Crimmins. “Everyone worked really hard and supported each other."

It was the first time in years, due to bad weather conditions, that Alfred State hosted a home meet.

Gearing up for states at RIT

02/20/2009

Alfred University's indoor track and field team has worked harder than ever to prepare for the state meet at RIT on February 27th. The team has had a long season and endured a strenuous road dating back to December 5th. The runners and throwers have improved dramatically, which will hopefully translate into the outdoor season.

Running through the odds: The story of Andrew Crawford

02/09/2009

With tights equipped, T-shirt over Under Armor, Pearl Izumi Synchrofloats II sneakers laced, Andrew Crawford begins what appears to be a casual run.

It’s when he returns from the run covered in mud, cold, and doused in sweat, that one notices a warrior. As Crawford enters the McLane Center looking like he just went through war, one can't help but ask:

“Where did you run today?” says one of AU’s cross country runners.

“How long of a run was it?” another one asks.

JAM with Just Alfred Musicians

02/02/2009

There’s no doubt that there is musical talent residing within the Alfred community, and a new program, Just Alfred Musicians, or J.A.M, has been created to bring these folks together to make music.
J.A.M.’s goal, according to president Trevor Larcheveque, is to “unify everyone and everything musical under one roof.”

The group first came about when many musicians agreed that there was a lack of a musical community in the Alfred area.
