Riley Lecture

Dr. Meda Chesney-Lind, a researcher from the University of Hawaii at Manoa whose work focuses on the experiences of girls who become enmeshed in the juvenile justice system, will deliver the 15th annual Elizabeth Hallenbeck Riley and Charles P. Riley Lecture in Women’s Studies at 5:30 p.m. March 22 in the Knight Club, Powell Campus Center on the Alfred University campus.

Her talk is entitled “Girls Going Wild: Facts and Myths about Girls’ Violence.”

Chesney-Lind’s work also involves gender responsive programs and how girls express relational, covert aggression.

Haitian earthquake affects AU's downstate students

Devastation caused by the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti directly affects some students and alumni in Alfred University’s downstate programs.

The University offers master’s degrees in counseling and literacy at two locations in the metropolitan New York area.

Dr. Jay Cerio, director of the downstate programs in counseling, said that among the four groups of students enrolled in the Master’s in Counseling, approximately 50 of them are originally from Haiti or still have family in Haiti.

Chamber Singers, Chorus, Jazz Band to perform annual Festifall concert

On Friday, Nov. 6, Alfred University will conduct its annual Festifall concert featuring performances by the AU Chamber Singers, the University Chorus, and the Jazz band.

This pops/jazz concert begins at 8 p.m. in Holmes Theatre in Harder Hall, on campus. All are welcome to attend this free event.

The Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Luanne Crosby, professor of voice and chorus, will start off the event with songs by Billy Joel, the Manhattan Transfer, and a song about making a great “chili con carne.”
