Rescue Squad in need of rescue

Alfred University Rescue Squad stopped responding to calls after their last run on March 30 due to the resignation of their former medical director.

At the moment, the Rescue Squad staff is sending out invitation letters to the doctors in the area in hopes of getting a new medical director. Even though the organization cannot respond to calls, the staff members stress that the Rescue Squad is still an existing student group and has been granted a budget for the coming school year.

Abuse of Powell bathrooms

The bathrooms on the third floor of Powell Campus Center were found misused over the weekend of April 10 by two part-time cleaning staff. It took the two full-time cleaning staff, Marcy and Pam, until Tuesday to reverse the damage.

Fire behind the Observatory Saturday afternoon

A fire broke out at the peak of the hill behind the Stull Observatory on Saturday, April 3.

“It is guessed that the fire spread across 15-20 acres,” said a firefighter from the Alfred Fire Hall.

The Alfred Fire Hall got the call around 12:40 p.m. Firefighters from six departments showed up, including the teams from Andover, Wellsville, Whitesville, Scio, Almond and Alfred Station. The fire was put out by approximately 3:30 p.m. Nobody was hurt.

“All our equipment came back in one piece,” said the chief of the Alfred Fire Hall.

Happy Chinese New Year of the tiger

The Chinese New Year, sharing Feb. 14 with Valentine's Day, was a very festive day.

The Confucius Institute at Alfred University organized a buffet dinner Feb. 13 and invited a group of dancers and singers to perform at Holmes Auditorium, Alfred University, in celebration of the Chinese new year of the tiger.
